The Golden gate Bridge

I realized, I do have strong stomach burning qualities, when Sameera coyly accepted Surya’s proposal in the movie Varanam Aayiram, with the most romantic backdrop, magnificently adorned by one of the longest suspension bridge in the world – The Golden Gate Bridge. The true beauty of this vibrant orange colored bridge failed to capture my eye while I was watching that scene, as I was busy fuming inside (along with my friends) on Sameera’s cajoling activities and commenting outside on Surya’s flirtations. This is the very same bridge graphically ripped apart by “Magneto” in the movie “X-men: The Last stand”. I visited it on Saturday. In spite of all the swine flu & traffic rule warnings, we drove to San Francisco almost 9 hours, just to see the bridge.

This bridge, which serves as a global symbol of San Francisco and California was built at 1937. I stared at the bridge wondering about the mind which designed it.These age old guys must be blessed with extraordinary mind and dazzling taste.  See the structure below, it shows their skills !

The first sight of the bridge was breath taking. One of the best spot I have ever seen. I immediately uttered customary words like wow, awesome, beautiful, brilliant etc, which is true. It was a cloudy day with intermittent drizzles. The tender mist enclosed the massive towers elegantly, emancipating its exquisiteness and finesse in infinite ways. The climate was too cool to make winter clothes mandatory for those who wish to survive. My whole body was wrapped in every respect leaving my demeanor closely resembling a sack of rice.

We twisted our cameras and took photos almost on every possible direction we have learnt on school. After exhausting enough battery life and camera memory on taking solo poses, we began to stroll. Walking on one of the world’s classic bridge like a penguin and glimpsing the gallops of dear dolphins on hundreds of feet below, on a chilly climate completely contrast to Chennai is not something I expect to happen in my lifetime, but it did happen and I am happy for it. The bridge was mesmerizing. A life time visit!

  1. Hi Vani,

Few things I liked about this article:

    1. Nicely written article. Many of the words used throughout the article are very apt (except very few words like filtrations).

    2. How you have brought out the context to a bridge, so that the user can relate to, is very good.

    3. Last but not the least, your perspective of appreciation “These age old guys must be blessed with extraordinary mind and dazzling taste. See the structure below, it shows their skills !” is very good. That in itself is okay but I am trying my best to remember the last time such a sincere appreciation came through. I am sure, there were few things to appreciate in Chennai as well. Your last article was also quite positive in intent (along with your usual much-liked sarcasm).

Seems to me that you are growing up….in character.

PS: Apologies for the earlier comments where the formatting went wrong.

    1. Hi Discoverer, Thanks for the wonderful comments. It means a lot for me.

Oops ….I made a mistake. It is not filtrations. It should be flirtations. Thanks again for pointing this out. It is corrected now.

  3. Hi vani

The potrait was good. While watching the film vaaranam Aayiram itself the bridge covers all the audiences. It was really good.

  4. I navigated through Orkut to this blog site of yours and ended-up reading most of your blogs in the last twenty minutes. This is a nice blog and so are the others. Discoverer has put it very well and I would like to second it: shows lot of character, the soul purpose of writing, in a literary sense. You use the words in their actual sense, which is hard to see on a blog, and so reading is a delight. The other reason that brought me to comment here is that you call this blog “The Bay Bridge” but you have written about “The Golden Gate Bridge”, actually, the Bay Bridge is on the other side.

    1. Krishna, Thanks for visiting. Welcome to my blog. yep ! messed up both the bridge names. The title of the post should be Golden gate bridge. It is fixed now..
